Distance Education Course Orientations

The orientation provides distance education students with critical information they need to get started and be successful in a class. Instructors are required to provide an orientation for each distance education course section:

  • ONL Courses: Online orientation is required. Instructors cannot require an on-campus component.
  • HYD & DLC Courses: Either online or on-site orientation may be offered.
Note: Instructional departments use Ad Astra to schedule rooms for on-site orientations.

A well-structured orientation establishes the foundation and sets the tone for student-instructor communication for the semester. It should include an overview of course objectives, list instructional materials and technologies to be used, state the instructor’s expectations, and describe ACC and distance education support resources.

Submit an Early Intervention Request for assistance in contacting students who don’t complete an orientation.
