
Lecture Capture
Overview
Lecture capture refers to recording lectures and making them available online for students to review. Recordings can be captured during live, in-person lectures or created independently from your office or home.
Austin Community College (ACC) supports Panopto, the college’s lecture capture and video streaming tool.
Getting Started
Access Panopto
- Faculty: Adding Panopto to your course in Blackboard
- Staff and Students: Log in with your ACCeID credentials
Support
- Submit the Faculty Support form for technical help.
- Visit the Teaching Consultations & Support page for teaching strategies.
- Submit the Panopto Support Request Form for shared folders or ownership changes.
About Panopto
Panopto is more than lecture capture. It serves as an “internal YouTube” for ACC, offering storage, sharing, and streaming features. Videos can be embedded in Blackboard, shared with custom links, and include automated machine captions.
Features
- Available to all ACC faculty, staff, and students (no license required)
- Upload and edit video, audio, and caption files
- Embed videos and video channels in Blackboard courses
- Restrict access to ACC users via Okta login or share publicly with a custom URL
- Collaborate with colleagues through shared folders
- Add embedded questions to videos, with scores reflected in Blackboard Gradebook
- Access analytics to identify students needing additional support
Policies and Considerations
Video Retention
- Videos move to your Panopto Recycle Bin 13 months after the last view (restorable within Recycle Bin).
- Videos are permanently deleted 3 years after the last view.
Shared Folders
Creating and adding users to shared folders must be requested with the Panopto Support Request Form.
Video Ownership
Each video has one owner. Ownership changes must be requested through the Panopto Support Request Form.
