Department Chair Academy
Overview
The Teaching & Learning Excellence Division (TLED) developed the Department Chair (DC) Academy in response to faculty feedback requesting additional support. The DC Academy is a 60-hour program designed to help department chairs succeed during their first year in the role. Participants learn to locate and use key tools and resources, complete essential tasks, and strengthen leadership skills and core competencies that promote student success.
Program Structure
Working within a cohort model, participants engage through reading materials, videos, library guides, guest speakers, and weekly meetings with fellow new chairs. The program also includes DC Boot Camps that provide timely exposure to ACC’s software and systems essential to the role.
Upon completion, department chairs receive college recognition and a $1,600 stipend.
