The Faculty Center for Learning Innovation (FCLI) and the Teaching & Learning Excellence Division’s Office of Faculty Development invite all Austin Community College (ACC) faculty to an evening of storytelling, connection, and celebration aboard the annual Riverboat Cruise.
This special faculty development event offers a unique opportunity to engage with colleagues from across the College while enjoying a meal, a scenic cruise through downtown Austin, and the spectacular flight of the city’s famous bats. Each year’s program features a themed session designed to inspire reflection and spark creativity.

- Faculty-only event: This event is exclusively for ACC faculty. Due to limited seating and the professional development focus, tickets are not available for guests or spouses.

2026 Speaker Details

Our 2026 Top Teaching Excellence Award recipient, Ted Hadzi-Antich Jr., Associate Professor of Government, will highlight The Great Questions Project, an innovative approach designed to engage students early in their academic journeys through discussion-based courses centered on core texts. By fostering thoughtful dialogue and critical reading in place of traditional textbooks, this model strengthens students’ communication, reasoning, and creative thinking skills. His keynote affirms the transformative power of community college education to open doors, cultivate informed citizens, and support lifelong success.
Ted is an Associate Professor of Government, founder of The Great Questions Project, and a member of the Honors faculty at ACC, where he has taught for over 18 years. He is the founder and executive director of The Great Questions Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that promotes discussion-based learning focused on transformative texts and ideas at community colleges. He serves on the board of the Association for Core Texts and Courses, the Independent Review Council of iCivics, and the National Advisory Board of the Mandel Humanities Center at Cuyahoga Community College. His work promoting the liberal arts has been featured in venues such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and PBS NewsHour.
