Instructional Faculty
This Faculty Evaluation process is intended to provide both formative and summative feedback to make the process more meaningful and actionable for faculty. Some processes occur every semester, while the majority of the evaluation process occurs at the end of each academic year.
Fall Semester: (beginning in Fall 2024)
-
- Become familiar with your department’s faculty evaluation procedures, rubrics, requirements and timeline and which year of the faculty evaluation cycle you are in
When: As early as possible – You might want to adjust some of your course policies or teaching plans to better align with your department’s requirements; depending on which year of the evaluation cycle you are in, you might need to begin working on something this semester
- Become familiar with your department’s faculty evaluation procedures, rubrics, requirements and timeline and which year of the faculty evaluation cycle you are in
-
- If you are full-time faculty in year 1 of the faculty evaluation cycle – You will need to participate in a Peer Dialog activity sometime this year, which requires you to work with one or more other faculty
When: Early in the semester, decide on an activity and plan to carry it out; should be completed before the end of Spring semester
- If you are full-time faculty in year 1 of the faculty evaluation cycle – You will need to participate in a Peer Dialog activity sometime this year, which requires you to work with one or more other faculty
-
- If you are full-time OR adjunct faculty who taught more than 6 hours per academic year in year 2 of the faculty evaluation cycle – You will need to decide upon your Purposeful Change project and carry it out this year
When: Decide upon your change no later than the end of the fall semester; it should be completed in time for you to analyze the outcome(s) and write it up to submit with your evaluation materials by your departmental deadline (after the end of the spring semester)
- If you are full-time OR adjunct faculty who taught more than 6 hours per academic year in year 2 of the faculty evaluation cycle – You will need to decide upon your Purposeful Change project and carry it out this year
-
- All faculty receive your Summary Evaluation Form that covers your work in the previous academic year – It would be a good idea to reflect upon this and decide whether there are any changes you need to make to your policies or teaching plans for the Spring semester.
When: End of the Fall semester - Fall student course evaluations – You should receive the results of your student course evaluations after the close of the fall semester. You will have several weeks to reflect upon how your Fall semester went and your students’ comments and submit your reflections in the Faculty Reflection Form.
When: No later than the end of the third week of the Spring semester
- All faculty receive your Summary Evaluation Form that covers your work in the previous academic year – It would be a good idea to reflect upon this and decide whether there are any changes you need to make to your policies or teaching plans for the Spring semester.
Spring Semester:
-
- If you are required to submit course materials this year (year 3 of the faculty evaluation cycle or all faculty who have taught 3 years or less at the college) – You should receive information from your department notifying you about which classes for which you need to submit course materials. You will want to keep track of your course materials for those classes so that you can easily submit them at the end of the semester (be sure to check which course materials your department expects you to submit; this usually includes the syllabi, most or all major assessments/assignments, and possibly examples of other assignments).
