Faculty Librarian Evaluation

Overview

The Austin Community College District values quality teaching and a learning environment that supports the continuous enhancement of the professional skills of its faculty. The purpose of the faculty librarian evaluation is to support exemplary teaching, collection development, librarianship, and – for head librarians – management. This transparent, fair, formative process results in actionable information for continuous enhancement of teaching, learning, librarianship and success for all students.

The pages in the menu summarize and link to the most important parts of the process.

The following sources give more detailed information:

The ACC Exemplary Teaching Statement is fundamental to the faculty evaluation process for faculty librarians. Faculty self-reflection provides the basis for librarian goals, teaching techniques, and professional development. Peer review and input from the supervising head librarian or dean further support faculty development with additional specific feedback to enhance the quality of their teaching, collection development, librarianship, and – for head librarians – management.

Faculty Librarian Evaluation Components

Important components of the faculty librarian evaluation process include:

    • Exemplary Teaching Statement – College expectations for excellent teaching are outlined in the Exemplary Teaching Statement, adopted by ACC Faculty.
    • Evaluation Calendar – Faculty librarian evaluations take place during late Spring or early Summer semesters, covering work performance from the current academic year. Evaluations follow a 3-year cycle, requiring different portfolio components to be submitted each year.
    • Ratings – To simplify and clarify the evaluation process, there are three ratings.
    • Formative – The Annual Summary Evaluation Form has a strong focus on providing formative feedback through the use of comments.
    • Self-reflection – There is an emphasis on self-reflection over faculty librarian teaching and student learning in their classes in the portfolio components.

For the complete details on the faculty librarian evaluation process, please see the Faculty Librarian Evaluation Manual.

If you have any questions, please email the Dean of Library Services, Keri Moczygemba at keri.mozygemba@austincc.edu or the Office of Faculty Evaluation at facultyevaluation@austincc.edu.

Portfolio

As with all Austin Community College faculty, faculty librarians must complete portfolio components, which meet LS departmental deadlines and are reviewed both during the academic year and also at the Annual Faculty Librarian Evaluation.

The faculty librarian portfolio components including annual checklists, deadlines, instructions, and forms for each year in the 3 year evaluation cycle for the faculty librarian evaluation process are listed in detail in the ACC Faculty Librarian Evaluations Libguide.
