Distance Learning Faculty Interest Group

The Distance Learning Faculty Interest Group (DLFIG) is for faculty to meet in an informal setting and share ideas regarding distance learning. The goal is to bring together a community of distance education practitioners and: learn from each other, explore technology meant to enhance distance education, review best practices, and share insight gained through teaching distance learning courses.

Tentative topics include: Technology and Tools, Creating a Class Presence and Classroom Management. Other topics to be determined.

Overview

 

Purpose:
The goal is to bring together a community of distance education practitioners and: learn from other faculty, explore ACC tools that can be used for distance learning, discuss how to create a presence in the online learning environment, and challenges faced with teaching distance learning.

Proposed Topics with Days and Time:

 

Topic 1:
ACC Tools-Faculty will discuss the tools they use to assist them with facilitating their distance learning courses. The exploration of tools should include what ACC has to offer and might include discussing outside of ACC tools.

Topic 2:
Creating and Engaging Online Learning Environment-Faculty will discuss methods they use in order to create an online presence in their distance learning course.

Topic 3:
Overcoming Challenges in Distance Learning Courses-Faculty will discuss solutions for challenges they have encountered while teaching in the distance learning format. Each faculty member will be asked to share a challenge they have experienced or currently experiencing while conducting their distance learning course(s), and colleagues will provide feedback.

Faculty Gift

Faculty who attend all three sessions will receive the following textbook: Excellent Online Teaching: Effective Strategies for a Successful Online Semester ISBN 978-0989711609.

The textbook will serve as a great reference with tips for teaching distance learning courses.
