Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education

The Office of Distance and Alternative Education is offering the Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education Faculty Learning Community (FLC) focused on AI teaching and learning where participants can explore a variety of topics to enhance their understanding and implementation of artificial intelligence in an educational setting. Through a series of engaging sessions, participants will explore various ways AI can enhance course development, delivery, and student engagement.

This group provides a platform for knowledge sharing, peer collaboration, and practical skill development to ensure faculty are well-equipped to navigate the evolving landscape of AI in education.

Applicant Prerequisites: Participants must teach at least one course during the FLC.
Stipend: $500 stipend will be paid after participating in the FLC and successfully meeting all requirements.
Professional Development: 9 hours (To self-report credits, go to Workday > Profile icon > View Profile > Career > Training > Add Training)
Registration Cap: Minimum: 6 Faculty / Maximum: 10 Faculty

These sessions provide a broad overview, and FLC participants can delve deeper into specific areas based on their interests and needs. The goal is to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and collectively enhance the use of AI in teaching and learning.

  • Session 1: Introduction to AI in Education & Ethical Considerations (September 13)
    Facilitator: Hoda Tavakoli
    Overview of AI concepts and applications in the educational context. Address ethical concerns related to AI in education.
  • Session 2: AI for Student Engagement & Personalized Learning (September 20)
    Facilitators: Kerri Pope, Lisa Yates
    Implement strategies for using AI to personalize learning experiences.
  • Session 3: Course Design & Development with AI (September 27)
    Facilitators: Mavis Klemcke, Kara Dixon
    Implement Strategies to enhance course designs.

 

  • Session 4: AI Tools & Resources in Education (October 4)
    Facilitator: Herbert Coleman
    Utilize AI tools and resources for effective instruction.
  • Session 5: Assessments & Feedback with AI (October 11)
    Facilitator: Herbert Coleman
    Utilize AI to incorporate feedback and develop formative and summative assessments.
  • Session 6: Conclusion & Reflections (October 18)
    Facilitators: Marian Moore, Virgil McCullough
    Reflections and collaborative feedback on AI concepts.
