Respondus 4.0
Overview
Respondus 4.0 is a software tool for developing and managing exams. It allows instructors to upload exams directly into Blackboard without retyping questions.
Access
Respondus 4.0 is free for ACC faculty to install on both office and home computers.
- Request access by submitting the Request for Software Download – Respondus Authoring Tool Form.
- Mac users do not need to request access. Respondus 4.0 can only be used on a Mac through Remote Desktop.

- Submit a Faculty Mojo Ticket for help from an Educational Technologist.
- Request an Instructional Design Consultation for assistance with exam design.

- Create exams more quickly than building assessments directly in Blackboard
- Import exams from a text editor or Microsoft Word
- Access thousands of publisher test banks when using adopted textbooks
- Print exams from Respondus 4.0
- Upload exams to Blackboard for online delivery (non-secure or secure with LockDown Browser)
- Download exams and reports from Blackboard

Respondus LockDown Browser
Respondus LockDown Browser is a separate, complementary tool used with Respondus 4.0 to administer secure online exams.
- Enable LockDown Browser in Blackboard by following this step-by-step guide.
- Students must open and update LockDown Browser before taking an assessment. See update instructions here.
- For technical support, students should contact Student Technology Services.
