HyFlex Teaching and Learning Fellowships
Overview
The HyFlex Teaching and Learning Fellowship is designed to support faculty in the redesign of courses employing high-impact and best practices in hyflex instructional methods and strategies that support equitable outcomes in student success.
HyFlex Design
Faculty will attend the HyFlex Institute training and complete one HyFlex course design and development. The course may complete an Internal QM review depending on design choice.
Length: 16 weeks Maximum
Timeline: Year-Round Options
Approval: Department Chair including assigned course to design and offer/teach
Stipend: $1,000
Progression: Participation in HyFlex Design places candidates in the selection pool for the HyFlex Fellow Fellowship.
Process
Phase 1 :
- Attend HyFlex Institute ($300)
Phase 2:
- Select a course to apply QM to HyFlex course design
- Complete Alignment Table for selected course
- Develop HyFlex course in Blackboard
- Complete Internal QM-Certified course depending on design choice ($200)
Phase 3:
- Schedule HyFlex Course ($500)
HyFlex Fellow
Faculty will teach the HyFlex course within a year, gather evaluation data and feedback on the effectiveness of the course, and adjust the design accordingly. Faculty will present their experiences during DE Symposiums, HyFlex Institute, or any other college-wide events. In addition, faculty will mentor a HyFlex Design faculty to guide them through HyFlex course design and development.
Length: 1-year program
Track 1: Spring/Summer/Fall for 1 year
Applications:
Track 1: Fall Applications
Approvals Needed: Department Chair including assigned course to design and offer/teach and Distance Education Department (Director and DE Instructional Designer)
Stipend: $1,200
Fellowships Available: Up to 4 per year
Pre-Requisites:
- Requires completion of an application
- Requires completion of the HyFlex Design Fellowship
- Have at least one (internally QM-certified contingent) HyFlex course to be offered within a year
Deliverable(s):
- Teach the HyFlex course within a year
- Provide a bulleted list of the revisions they have made to improve their courses from student evaluation and feedback
- Present their experiences in HyFlex design and delivery in DE Symposiums, HyFlex Institute, or any other college-wide event
- Participate in HyFlex Interest Group
- Complete the HyFlex fellow checklist
Progression:
- Participation in Hyflex Fellow places candidates in the selection pool for the Senior HyFlex Fellowship.
Phase 1:
- Teach the HyFlex course within a year.
Phase 2:
- Gather evaluation and feedback to improve on course
- Revise and update course accordingly
- Provide a bulleted list of the revisions you’ve made to improve your course from the evaluation and feedback you received ($500)
Phase 3:
- Give a presentation or training to other faculty and members related to HyFlex course design and delivery during Distance Education Symposium, HyFlex Institute, or any other college-wide event ($200)
- Participate in HyFlex Faculty Interest Group or HyFlex Faculty Learning Community to share design and teaching experiences with other HyFlex faculty ($500)

Acceptance notifications will be sent no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024.
Senior HyFlex Fellow
Faculty will identify and select a problem or issue to research surrounding the HyFlex course design and implementation, possibly focusing on a related redesign strategy. They will gather existing research and data from reputable publications and participate in professional development opportunities to deepen understanding about contemporary issues. Fellows will prepare a literature review, conduct research and prepare a publishable article. In addition they will offer workshops or training and serve as a peer mentor to other faculty.
Length: 2-year program
Track 1: Spring/Summer/Fall for 2 years
Applications:

Approvals Needed: Department Chair, Dean, and Distance Education Department (Director and DE Instructional Designer)
Stipend: $2,500
Fellowships Available: Up to 2 per year
Pre-Requisites:
- Requires completion of an application
- Requires completion of HyFlex Fellowship
- Have at least one (internally QM-certified contingent) HyFlex course to be offered within two years
Deliverable(s):
- Conduct HyFlex course design and delivery-related research
- Write a proposal or publishable article
- Make a DE Symposium presentation or lead at least one DE-related workshop series
- Attend DE related conference and report on the experience
- Participate in HyFlex Interest Group
Progression: Participation in Senior HyFlex in the Senior puts candidates in selection pool for future development opps
Process
Year 1
- Identify and gather research topic related to HyFlex course design and delivery (Fall/Spring)
- Complete a literature review and finalize the research topic (Spring/Summer)
- Identify data collection process and methodology (Summer/Fall)
- Implement research topic to HyFlex course design (Summer/Fall) ($1000)
- Make DE Symposium presentation or lead at least one DE-related workshop series ($150)
Year 2
- Teach a research-based HyFlex course (Fall/Spring)
- Collect and analyze data (Spring/Summer)
- Write a proposal or publishable article and submit (Spring/Summer) ($1200)
- Make a DE Symposium presentation or lead at least one DE-related workshop series ($150)
- Attend a HyFlex or DE related Conference and report on the experience
